CINCINNATI + DAYTON DOULA SUPPORT
Wise + Wild is no longer a one woman show!
Welcome to the new partnership between Cincinnati and Dayton doulas Emily Frigo and Ashlee St.Denis.
Wise + Wild is not an agency.
We are two women, supporting other women (and your families).
We are two mothers, walking alongside your journey into motherhood.
We are two friends, who have been each other's doula backups for quite some time.
And we have decided that the best way to serve you is to come together, to give you our combined experience and knowledge, and the peace of mind that someone you already know and trust will attend your birth.
We believe birth matters... that your birth matters.
We trust the intuition of women to birth their babies in the way that is instinctively right for them. We provide evidence based information to help you feel knowledgeable and confident in your choices. We share ancestral wisdom and sacred practices to help you feel connected and grounded. And we give you physical and emotional encouragement that you deserve.
Birth is a balance between the wise and wild, ancestral wisdom and modern science. We are here to support you while you find your own perfect balance between instinctual and evidence based birth practices.
You already have the power. You already have what you need to birth. We are here to support you in your journey.
CINCINNATI + DAYTON BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY
After over seven years of offering a variety of professional photography, I (Emily) am most inspired when documenting births. It's simply a natural extension of the passion I have for everything related to pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum season of life. As a Cincinnati and Dayton professional and experienced birth photographer, I strive to artistically and professionally capture the raw, honest, and organic journey of birth. I am excited and honored to be currently mentoring Ashlee as she expands her natural photography talent to become an experienced birth photographer.
Hey there, I'm Emily Frigo (free go), the founder of Wise + Wild Birth Services. I'm a Birth Doula, Birth Photographer, and Placenta Encapsulator. I'm a trained Herbalist through Herbal Academy of New England, an Usui Reiki Master, and an experienced birth photographer. I'm a certified Stillbirthday Doula, trained CAPPA Birth Doula, trained Birth Arts International Birth Doula, and I'm a trained Birth Arts International Childbirth Educator. I'm a trained International Placenta and Postpartum Association Placenta Encapsulator, and certified in Bloodborne Pathogens and Food Safety. And I'm now studying academics towards Midwifery through Ancient Arts of Midwifery Institute. Of course, continuing education is very important to me, so I'm always expanding my knowledge by attending workshops, webinars, conferences, and more.
But no amount of training could ever compare to what I'm most proud of, and that is my journey through motherhood. I have experienced a stillbirth, multiple miscarriages, and secondary infertility. And I'm now the mother of four amazing young children. Each birth has changed me. Through my own stories of motherhood, I has gained so much wisdom, empathy, intuition, and compassion... those of which could never be duplicated in a textbook.
I am passionate about the rights of women to choose how, where, and with whom we give birth. Due to standing issues with women's equality, seeded sexism, and/or freedom of birthing rights, I have either rescinded certifications or made the conscience decision to not complete certifications with some of the trainings listed above. If you're interested in learning more about why I made these decisions, I am happy to discuss this further with you.
I am a fiery mother of two daughters only 17 months apart and the wife of the kindest man I know. I didn’t always think I would find myself in this line of work. I attended Eastern Kentucky University, where I earned a BS in Psychology with a minor in music (the flute and classical music being my other great passions). My plan was to pursue a masters degree but I found myself engaged, pregnant and perfectly content on staying home with my little girl. However, the birth of my oldest daughter spiked my interest in birth work after I had a beautiful un-medicated hospital birth. I found myself sitting through trainings, participating in mentorship programs and reading all the birthy books I could get my hands on. I realized after attending my first birth as a doula, I had found my life’s calling. There is nothing quite like the sight of such a fragile sweet being coming from a woman who holds such power.
The homebirth of my second daughter further ignited my passion in the field more than I thought possible. I have never in my life felt so connected spiritually, instinctual, and wild as I did the night I brought her earthside. Her birth left me feeling whole and truly connected to myself. I believe the changes we experience and the strength and love that pours from us during childbirth is a right no woman should be stripped of. There is always strength when there seems to be none left. Always. Sometimes we need someone there to remind us of this. Birth is no exception.
When I am not witnessing other babies come into the world, I am doing laundry, cleaning, and watching my babies grow and play their hearts out in the place we call our home. When I am not chasing around fast little feet, rocking, burping, singing, or changing countless diapers, I enjoy reading and shamelessly binge watching Netflix after they are asleep. I strive to teach my girls through play, nature and connecting with others. I am still young with endless opportunity. I cannot wait to see where my family, my partnership with Emily, and my life’s work takes me.
